CEO’s Comment
WayAhead CEO, Elizabeth Priestley today commented on the 2016 – 2017 NSW Mental Health Budget.
Support
“WayAhead support the extra $106 million allocated to mental health services for the next financial year, particularly in relationship to increased funding for eating disorders, treatment for borderline personality disorder and for older persons mental health.”
Anxiety Disorders
“However, Anxiety Disorders affect 1 in 7 people in Australia, making them even more common than depression. What we are disappointed about is the poor recognition and awareness of the significant effects anxiety disorders have on the daily lives of people with the disorders who also make up a substantial percentage of mental health consumers.
We are also disappointed that there is little financial support given to programs working in prevention and early intervention across the lifespan, from young to old”.
