During COVID when everyone was literally staying home, I was looking for people to talk to. I had my family and my friends, but I wanted to connect with people in a different way. It was a lonely feeling. I felt lost. I felt like no one understood me and the way I was feeling. I didn’t want to go out, didn’t want to stay in and really didn’t know what I wanted, all I knew is that I felt sad and wanted my life to change. I started going online and googling, how to talk to people to increase my level of interaction with people. I could not find anything or anyone. I looked on every platform, social media to find a link. I couldn’t find anything. I rang up NSW Health and asked them where I could talk to people online, and they referred me to Wayahead. I called Wayahead and spoke to an amazingly friendly and helpful gentlemen. I explained that I didn’t really want to go out anywhere, I just wanted to start with meeting people virtually online. He sent me the link to the online event which was occurring at 6pm. It was after work hours, so I didn’t have to change my schedule, I just joined that evening……
….. and I have never looked back. The group was so friendly and understanding. The group spoke about their individual struggles or difficulties they were experiencing, and people spoke as little or as much as they wanted to. If people didn’t want their faces shown, their cameras were off, if they wanted to mute their speaker and simply listen to the whole session and not contribute that was fine too
Our worlds have changed since the beginning of COVID and beyond and knowing I had a group to talk to either once a week or once a fortnight it made a huge impact to my life. There are both male and female facilitators to contribute and run the groups. There’s no commitment to the number of sessions people attend, you can attend once and not return or you can attend several groups at a time.
This group has genuinely changed my life, so much so that I am now a cofacilitator of one of these groups!
If you are unsure which group is right for you, perhaps come along to three or four groups and find the right fit for you or you can choose to continue to join all four, for as long as you like.
Once you sign up, you will be given a link to the session and some additional information about the group. You will be able to ask questions to the facilitator directly, if you need to, they are there to help answer any questions and provide any additional clarity for you.
Please, if you’re thinking of coming along, take the plunge, we welcome all new members to join.
